Barrier-free mobility in regular service

Accessible mobility: New low-floor bus officially delivered

The municipality of Walperswil (BE) is sending a strong signal in favor of barrier-free mobility: at the beginning of December 2025, we at BUSHANDEL.ch AG delivered BUSHANDEL.ch AG first Mercedes Sprinter 519 low-floor bus to the municipal administration.

After several years of planning, the vehicle was designed specifically to meet the new requirements for public transport—including a low-floor area, ramp, and wheelchair space—in line with the legal requirements (BehiG, BAV) that will come into force in 2024 and the newly designed stops with Kassel special curbs.

The compact public service vehicle can accommodate up to 24 passengers, including 13 regular seats, 2 folding seats, 10 standing places, and a wheelchair space. If required, 4 additional quick-release seats can be installed – ideal for flexible use in regional public transport.

Technical highlights at a glance:

- 190 hp diesel (Euro 6)
- 9-speed automatic transmission
- Length: 7.36 m | Width: 2.02 m | Height: 2.62 m
- Exterior swing-sliding door with Kassel board for almost step-free entry
- Low-floor area & ramp for wheelchairs or strollers

Particularly noteworthy: Due to new standards, the entrances and door systems had to be completely redesigned. The result is a vehicle with a well-thought-out design, high everyday practicality, and maximum comfort for all passengers.

We would like to thank the municipality of Walperswil for their trust and look forward to continuing our successful collaboration.
